For what’s it’s worth I have a few comments from the match at Northampton Town .It’s just a few observations , not a proper match report , we leave that to Hedgegrower !
The coach journey organised by Mr Lou was first class there and back with free coffee provided , radio from Smooth and a good driver . I would recommend this service for the fans most definitely . Talking to some of the fans at the service station stop most were fairly full of doom and gloom . One group of fans wanted to get on board another coach in the car park and go off and do some sightseeing in Scotland instead !
I always say that in League Two we have a chance in ALL these matches . All the matches we have lost so far we could have got a result in all of them . We’re Northampton Town really vastly superior to us ? I thought there was nothing in it .
On arrival the ground appeared to be in a large valley , it looked like a work in progress stadium . By the way there was an excellent Starbucks coffee bar just on top of the Cineworld complex with a great view and not bad coffee ! I was impressed with Northampton Town’s main stand , that is how our main stand should look at Edgeley Park . It was a great sight being packed out and full . The view we had in the East Stand was excellent and under cover .
To be fair to DC , he was without Camps and Lewis , arguably two of our best players . They would have been certain starters for sure .
In hindsight we can be all good at being team managers . Yes DC made a mistake in taking Croasdale off and should have subbed Wright after an hour . Wright does have some qualities , reads the game well , and his main job is tackling , in those fifty fifty challenges . He does win the ball back but is prone to mistime the odd tackle every now and again and is always liable to get booked . He is just too much of a liability as was proved at Crawley as well and should be on the bench and just come on if we need to “ manage “ the game with an extra defensive midfielder if required .
Another mistake from DC was to have Crankshaw on the wing , a complete waste of his talent . He is far more effective as a striker as he showed at Crawley . Hippolyte is the perfect player down the left and create chances and gets round the back of defences with his good first touch and two footed play .
A further mistake from DC was to bring on Paddy Madden far too late . He looked quite sharp and workmanlike and once he was on we looked a bit more of a threat in their box . Fraser Horsfall had a great game , my County man of the match . Croasdale put a good shift in and Crankshaw probed and prompted from time to time . Yes a positive was our first half display , our work rate was first class as we frustrated Northampton , I don t think they had a single shot in the first half and won the game with a fifteen minute ‘ purple patch ‘ , apart from that , we matched them .
If Camps and Lewis can get fit , I would drop Brown , Kitching , Woolton , Wright and Collar , and have Hippolyte , Madden and Crankshaw as our front three . But as I have said we can all be experts when it comes to managing the team !
On the journey home there was NOT any anti DC feeling . He has a huge amount of credit following last years fantastic season . But there was a feeling that it will be inevitable that Mr Stott’s patience will snap at some point and DC will be shown the exit door .
My own view is DC is a great guy but maybe he has taken Stockport County as far as he can and should now go .
This Saturdays match against ailing Walsall may be his last one .
