    County v Leicester overview Archived Message

    A few comments for what they are worth folks ! It was a thrilling cup tie and like most County fans I wasn’t all that disappointed about the lottery of the penalty shoot out . Yes , DC should have brought Madden on at the end with penalties in mind , but our overall performance was top class , Leicester had a pretty strong team out and we more than held our own .
    After a pretty tedious first fifteen minutes when Leicester were just passing the ball across their back four , once we got into the game our confidence grew as County realised they could open up the Leicester defence and create a chance or two. Arguably we had the most clear cut chances on the night . Was a bit surprised with the line up , starting with only one recognised striker but to be fair Jennings did okay with several neat flick ons . Crankshaw had a great game , he is slightly unpredictable but his charging runs were causing havoc . Lewis was immense at the back , I think he and Palmer look a very solid pairing , Varos was very steady in goal , very confident , was a bit unlucky in the penalty shoot out as he very nearly saved all three of Leicesters successfull penalties !
    Evans and Camp both put a great shift in , Brown was lively at full back with his wing back runs . Kitching , has his critics , did a great block late on , has a good first touch but just gets a bit lost when in the opposition half at times . Johnston looked his usual self again and played very solidly .
    The players set themselves high standards and have their own expectations . They know the performances at Stevenage , Doncaster and Mansfield were nowhere near good enough and ok , we raised our game against premier league opposition and now have a golden chance to get our season back on track with Swindon Town at Edgeley on Saturday . Swindon are NOT world beaters , are just a League Two outfit similar to who we have played so far this season. We are at home , the fans are right behind the players and if DC can get the team selection right there is no reason why we can’t get a decent result .
    One odd thing from the Leicester match just to conclude , it was strange to see loads of their fans leaving the ground before the penalty shoot out and we’re generally pretty quiet throughout the match .
