I'm with Noff on this one... 32k is damn good money.
And as far as I can see they seem to be striking about money, not about hours and conditions... but about money.
Fair enough possibly if it was about hours and conditions... but money when the lowest I've seen quoted around here is 32k is just not on.
You can quote your quotes ML but what but the office worker or factory worker, many in the public sector on 13 or 14 or 15k a year, also working a 40 hour week - should they all strike.
In fact one group of people I'd like to give it up for who get just as much underpaid, if not more so, than all the self-righteous teachers, nurses, truck drivers etc... who strike - so let's hear it for the refuse workers!! I'm being serious - these folk do sterling work - and not massively well-paid - imagine if they decided to "withhold their labour" - we'd well be up (not wishing to pun) sh*t street.
I agree with striking and demonstrations of workers rights/power when there's just cause but if it's 32k the drivers are on.. then the only people who should be picketing the fat-cat bosses of the petrol companies are the bloody customers!(many of whom will be on half that (give/take a grand or so))
