975 a week wouldn't cover your mortgage and bills after tax? Eh? That's by my reckoning 975x52 = 50k per year. Even taking into account tax I would still wager that that should be more than enough to cover mortgage and bills. Of course it depends on how extravagant or not a lifestyle you lead - and the size of the mortgage (which may be related to lifestyle). I don't believe that anyone with a basic pay of 50k PA before tax would be struggling financially. At least they shouldn't need to.
