I didn't realise it was Monday not Tuesday til the last minute and I was taking my then girlfriend. I chucked a sickie at my then job as chief reporter at the Shropshire Star in Bridgnorth to make it easier to go. The bastards then sent said girlfriend - also a Shrops Star reporter - to Bridgnorth to cover for me.
So I had to pick her up from Bridgnorth at 5pm rendering my sickie completely pointless. I drove at the speed of light to Chesterfield but then the Brett Angell goal....
Where was I....sat in my car stuck in traffic outside Saltergate.
What did I hear....eieieio up the football league we go.....
I knew we'd scored and it took me years to bring myself to actually watch the goal.
Two centuries later, when the final whistle went, I took two steps forward from my position at the back of that amazing away end and sank to my knees and started crying. I have never cried at a game before or since but that day, oh my god, that day, was just too much....
My father was a County fan like my grandfather before :-)
