I agree on that final paragraph, but it's tricky, isn't it? Our perceptions of a 'proper course' are possibly skewed by our own experiences and upbringing. And it's going to be difficult to turn to one child and say 'Oh, you want to be a vet/doctor/teacher? That's fine. Off you go. We'll do what we can to help' and then turn round to the other one and say 'Media Studies? You what? Get a proper job and start paying to live under our roof.'
And if either of my kids decides to move to London they can fund every single penny of that themselves.
More seriously, I do think that as thing stand, if they do end up wanting to go into higher education they are likely to have to do it from home, which would be a massive shame for them.
