One or two did our club no favours with the violence though. A pitch(side) invasion is one thing - I don't think anyone could deny County fans had every right to be incandescent about what was happening to us and what that day was confirming. A pitch invasion can be a perfectly reasonable means of making a point. But whacking one of their players wasn't a smart move, to say the least.
In truth, by that point, I was just crushed by everything. The relegation, the capitulation, the mismanagement of the club, the anger, the in-fighting, the way that even in one of the worst moments in our history the fans were being screwed over by another club. It's rare I can't summon up the energy to sing, even in the most adverse of situations for us. But that day was too much.
