JG is a highly intelligent, well read, intensely competitive personality. That's why he's achieved what he has in life. He's also managing in division 6 on a part time basis which suggests despite his many skills and assets, there are flaws too. Otherwise he'd be far higher.
The question people seem to wilfully refuse to ask or answer is whether there are any people out there who we could be certain would do a better job in a shorter spell from where we are now. Nobody can say for sure, but given our recent history of changes it might suggest the issue is who we are historically (100+ years in the FL) vs where we are currently.
It matters not one tiny bit that we'd never heard of Brackley before a few years ago. It makes absolutely no difference on the pitch that Salford, Harrogate et al have never played in the league never mind reached our heady heights. Because football is played on the pitch, not in a Rothmans Yearbook.
There's no financial fair play at this level which essentially means clubs with 200 fans and a wealthy owner could prosper against our 3000+ and our frugal owners. I wouldn't want it any other way to be honest. Without it we probably wouldn't have found ourselves in the Championship for five years.
The owners we have are underpinning the continued malaise but I also understand why they're doing what they're doing. They did not sign up to blow hundreds of grand on a half chance of League 2. Even if they wanted to I'm not sure I'd trust them to. They're custodians and given that fact, they probably shouldn't be running the club at a huge loss anyway. To do so would put off the interest of a potential new owner who does fancy a punt on us. In addition, the club not owning the ground means most credible new owners won't be interested because any money they invest won't be guaranteed by the asset that is EP. It'd be unsecured and potentially risky.
So we are where we are. Most people don't look at the core issues and instead they focus on the minutiae of management styles or how lazy Bohan Dixon appears to be. These are just details.
The real issue is what happened when EP and SCFC were divorced by BK. That sole fact has continually hampered the clubs prospects to re-emerge. It played an important role in us going into admin and not coming out for ages and meant most people at the helm since have been barely fit for purpose and reluctant.
JG ain't perfect but then neither is Pep Guardiola. What he is is one of the genuine heroes in our history, a person who has played more games than almost anyone, scored more goals than almost anyone, managed us to our only promotion in 2 decades, our only manager to win at Wembley, someone with surprisingly a better win ratio than Danny Bergara (its close, depends whether we're on a good or bad run).
Whatever his failings, he's done a shit load more for our club than could ever have been expected of him. OK so he's made a living, but so have many without ever giving us the things above.
If we are having a game of finger pointing, can we use the other nine first before worrying about whether our forthright manager is upsetting a couple of players who clearly aren't up to the job anyway?
