I do think there's a time and a place for criticising players, and I think sometimes JG doesn't get that balance right; but flip it. The alternative is we get a meaningless PR exercise after every match, which offers no insight into what's going on at all. I suspect the people who criticise JG for having a go, would criticise JG for not having a go, if he didn't do it. These are the same people who come on a messageboard and slag players off, but then criticise the manager for slagging players off. Were I being cynical, I'd suggest there's an element of 'looking for any excuse'at play.
I also don't think it's wise to compare football to other industries. We know football is different. Where else will you get tens of thousands of people calling a stranger a wanker for making a split-second decision? Where else will you get a group of overweight men singing together en-masse? There's nothing to be gained from comparing a football pitch with an open-plan office block.
In short, JG should probably tone it down sometimes. But give me a manager that speaks his mind over one that talks in erms and hackneyed cliches any day.
