Defense is reliant on three things, hard work, reading the game and good habits. The good habits is 50% of that good defense. Things like marking players, being right side of your player and generally being in the right place and making the safe, high percentage plays. And doing it instinctively because it is a habit.
Don't know how Jim is going to fix that, but he seems to be getting discouraged with trying to coach basic defensive play to a number of current players. Frustrating that we are as close as a few clean sheets and making opponents earn any goals they score against us, but if we can't do that then we won't be in the playoffs.
Jimbo does know what's wrong so "here's hoping" that he can fix it, one way or the other (5 man defense?). There will be no lack of effort or commitment from our manager to make it happen. I don't expect him to feed the EP faithful with a loaf and a couple of fishes or turn water in wine but as a football manager he will not stop working to improve the team/squad until there is no more room for improvement - in other words, Jim will never stop trying to get better, even if we are flying.
