Then goes searching for anything that supports the myth that Stockport is a player with national recognition.
Notwithstanding he could not list one signature building public or private built in the last 30 years of stand out architectural merit that marks out Stockport.
The many of the towns institutions are housed in buildings of past architectural merit or of 60s brutalistic design. Red Rocks is two industrial blocks tarted up with plastic cladding and a bit of paved mosaic gardens.
A training facility like the metro at the back of Grand Central, a bland commercial development in itself, is not on the same scale as Manchester's cycling velodrome training facility.
The town is more exercised by roads than creating statements. Practicality and dure utilitarian units are all it builds.
Stockport is the second biggest town after Manchester itself on Manchester's direct broader.
Which runs thus.
Newcastle upon Tyne
Stockport does not have a top flight football team, it does not have modern stadia or mass gig venues or 21st century signature architecture. It does not have a University or any of the institutions of city (which it should be) of comparable size.
Something is wrong. Whether that's in the towns mentality or lack of vision. A town like Stockport should have statements and institutions both commercial and public that reflect its footprint, stature and population.
It does not. So go figure.
Now I wait for Imposter to google his enthusiastic fingers to tell me where I missed a bit so I must be completely wrong.
But he still cannot name a signature building since the pyramid....a failed project in itself that Stockport has built.
Coming back to the meter of the thread. EP is an old lady from another area and needs rebuilding or relocated to a new building with a tenant that's going places or you can go on following a dead dog while you wait for a white knight coming over the hills. Don't hold your breath.
