What should happen is a new 21st century mass sporting venue built in Stockport and if a Stockport based club of some sport wants to rent it so be it. Be that public or private venture. Everything about Stocky sporting wise is low profile, low status or playing in venues that belong to another age.
The yanks blow their old stadia up,... or not as the case my be every 20 odd years, and start again. Tradition means we hang on to them until they fall down. I don't mind EP being on Hardcastle Road if the residents will ware it but it's long overdue a rebuild.
You look around at some of these lower league clubs planning 21st century stadia, not only do you wonder where they get the money but it's clear they have ambition from places with far less catchment areas than we have.
I just ask myself WTF is going on? Where are we? what are we doing wrong that they can do?
Is the answer, "that's who we are" trundlers?
Is it a deep seated poverty mindset?
It just leaves me crestfallen at the state of things and then you get beat by corrugated and angle iron outfits in a field at the bottom of a council estate. Breeze block clubs in places you would never drive through let alone visit.
It all smacks of slow managed decline. Last one out switch the lights off.
