Also the Pyramid was finished in 1992 not 1980
As for a big gig facility possibly - but we have to be realistic, can it play for itself, can it stop people just getting on a bus/train to Manchester there those are ten-a-penny. Also do similar towns/cities have big-gig facilities - does Oldham, or Bolton, do Walsall in the Birmingham hinterland?
The University that would be the one thing I would agree with and the one thing I would start with - knowing students that would/could help push for the possibility of those other things you mention. But yet again, how does it pay for itself or get funded - councils are cutting budgets left-right and centre, the college, the most obvious institution to lead the birth of a university in Stockport is having it's financial belt tightened.
A top show-piece production theatre - again very very expensive to do.With what's going on with the Plaza and the continuing growth of the Garrick, Stockport theatre life is growing to become much closer to challenging what Oldham and Bolton have in the Coliseum and Octagon. Not as close as it should be, but it's getting better.
A pro-orchestra - completely unrealistic - how many towns or cities have such, outside of major major cities or a small number of university/touristy towns/cities - hardly any. It would be very very expensive to pay for as well.
I don't disagree it would be good to see some of those things in Stockport, but you have to be realistic about it.
