I now see the club as a joke, a disgrace and I’m embarrassed to admit to others that I follow a club at such a lowly level. For the most part we’re facing up against glorified pub teams. Call me ‘billy big bollocks’ if you wish but I cannot take our opponents seriously. Thus I think I should stop taking County seriously.
Some of these teams don’t even have proper fans, just a load of hobbyists turning up on an afternoon whilst their ‘main team’ is away. One example - Gloucester ‘fans’ turning up at EP last season were actually Bristol Rovers fans having a piss up. The biggest game of the season in terms of attendance is against a Man United tribute act.
It was one thing dropping to this level but remaining here is another matter entirely. To me it matters that we’re at a decent level, a level where we belong. We weren’t in the Football League for 110 years by chance. Some may point out how we got lucky here and there re re-elections but so what, the football league is our home.
The fact we’re not just one league, but two leagues away from the FL makes me sick. I’m not too bothered about being written off as a mard arse, because this club means a lot to me and it breaks my heart to see what we’ve become.
Other clubs have their falls too, but all seem to recover. We don’t look like doing so, and I can only see us getting worse. Ultimately I will stop bothering in the near future as I’m losing all interest and as I’ve said, it breaks my heart. Those who can stomach it can carry on attending of course, they can carry on disagreeing with ‘mards’ like myself, but good luck attracting the next generation when the opposition bring 12 fans and have a name ending in ‘Avenue’ or ‘Spartans’.
This regime will be the death of Stockport County once and for all IMO and we need to provoke change now. So again, I propose a record low home crowd at EP to put some panic into the owners and make sure they source the necessary investment ready for a title challenge next season.
