- The increase in our budget has to be measured in relation to other teams’ budgets, which we don’t know.
- The quality of competition at this level has moved on far quicker than we have. We’ve been left behind this year.
- There are plenty of positive things going on, including the slow transition to full time, which should be commended. People slagging off Gannon relentlessly are being short-sighted.
- But, even taking into account all of the above, we’re doing nowehere near good enough this season. Even with the better standard of opposition, 26 points from 20 games is pathetic for a side looking at being involved in a promotion race.
I’d be amazed if we get to 70-odd points now, but the warning signs have been there quite literally since the first week of the season. To do that we’re going to have to average more than two points a game. We’re labouring to just over one. We’ve done it before, but that was exceptional, not the norm. This is an average aide that will almost certainly end the season in an average position, because to be blunt, we’re not good enough to do any better than that.
