It is a bit of confused/confusing reporting.
Administrators had previously agreed a deal with a consortium led by former Manchester City footballer Jim Melrose to buy the club, but the deal was subject to an agreement between Melrose and Cheshire Sport Promotions Ltd, the firm which owns its Edgeley Park Stadium. However, the two sides failed to agree a deal .
But this has been added:
James Jennings. CEO of Cheshire Sport and Sale Sharks said, “ It’s well reported that the Melrose Consortium failed to proceed with their bid due to failing to reach agreement with the Football League on a number of issues which are still outstanding.”
And so we are where we thought we were. In the dark with no-one telling us much other than that they're not going to take money out of us until this process is done. As far as any prospective owners are concerned, we still know very little. Or perhaps less than nothing.
