In February, I was lucky enough to win the shirt, complete with ripped off collar, that Liam Dickinson wore and scored the winning goal in at Wembley last May.
Sadly, my lovely wife Bernadette, was very poorly at the time with cancer. She passed away peacefully in St. Ann's Hospice on March 6. Many of you will know the significance of the date she passed.
Many of you will also be aware of the love, support, and comfort that the staff at St. Ann's provide to both the person who is in the last days of their lives and the families of that person.
St. Ann's Hospice is a charity. It receives no monies from outside sources other than through donations and fund raising events.
I am auctioning Liam Dickinson's - now personally signed by Liam at Rob Clare's benefit match - Wembley shirt to raise funds for St. Ann's Hospice.
The current best bid stands at £500 and is from Gibraltar Mike. He has also bid to get the shirt professionally framed, and for it to stay in my possession to do with it what I want. I have thought long and hard about this and I have decided to present the shirt to St. Ann's Hospice so they can hang it in their reception area. To be honest though, the final resting place of the shirt isn't my main concern. I just want to raise as much money as I can from the shirt.
Do you wish to own a very important piece of County memorabilia and help out a very important local organisation?
I know times are tough but come on you County fans, dig deep. The auction will close on 31/07/2009 and the winning bidder will be able to present their cheque to St. Ann's on the pitch at the first home game of next season.
E-Mail terryhermitage@hotmail.com or m.hatton2@sky.com to make a bid.
Thank you very much. R.I.P. Bernadette & Mark.
Malcolm Hatton.
