Someone told me that he read on another website that Charlie said he is not coming because he is not happy with his engine situation. However, he seems to think that if NHRA allows them to run his cars 150 pounds lighter than the Barton cars, and allow him to use the clutchless transmission, he might come out to challenge the Barton cars next year. After three rounds of qualifying at the Hemi Challenge the five SS/AH cars with Ray Barton Racing Engines powerplants are all in the top six positions. There is one Wescott powerplant that has made it into the number four position. The fastest Westcott car ran 8.528. The SLOWEST Barton car ran 8.548. When you look at the top 10 qualifying positions for the Hemi Challenge the five cars with Barton engines have an average ET of 8.470. The other five cars with engines built by Charlie and I don't know who else, have an average ET of 8.62. Maybe throwing that hundred and 50 pounds on those cars with the automatic transmissions, and allowing the stick guys to use clutchless transmissions will be enough to even out the playing field for Charlie. However, it seems like enough is never enough. A 40 pound weight break now just isn't enough. Let's add another 96 pounds to the evil automatic transmission cars and maybe we can make it a close race again.
Thanks, Ollie
