As a black woman who is heavy set, I am dealing today with stereotype of plus sized black women based on images like that. Not all maids in during that era were plus size and that is a misgiving that lead to a stereotype that still exist. If she was thin and not always having the typical big black woman attitude with her body motions, maybe it would not be so offensive but everything that I am perceived to be as a plus sized black woman is based on images like Mammy.
