They are devils and fiends from the plane of Baator, an evil realm. The most numerous are the Baatezu, who are infamous for their strength, evil temperament, and ruthlessly efficient organization. Most Baatezu have a Gothic gargoyle look, grotesque and unsightly by human standards.
They enjoy bullying those weaker than themselves and often attack just to gain a trophy ot three. Most Baatezu are surrounded by an aura of fear, which the use to break up powerful groups and defeat opponents piecemeal.
The Baatezu also use their illusion abilities to delude and confuse foes as much as possible. A favorite trick is to create illusory reinforcements; enemies can never be entirely sure if a threat is only a figment or real summoned demons joining the fray.
Baatezu are immune to fire and poison and are very hard to hurt with cold or acid. Also they see perfect in darkness, even a magically made darkness. "
