My aunt was a teacher at Our Lady's Eldon Street and in the 1950s she used to take me out to Jackson's Pond on Sundays in the good weather -spring. This was to collect frog spawn or tadpoles for the classroom nature table. I think we also got a couple of newts in jamjars, which were a real treasure. Poor things, whatever happened to them afterwards in the city...
