Posted by Liz Wright on 14/5/2007, 7:20 am I am wondering if Plymyard Park lay somewhere near the Plymyard Ave of today? Would anyone know?? I am also wondering if there was an obituary written in a local newspaper at the time of John Thomson's death on 19 May 1889. Could anyone advise how I could search for an obituary in the local papers long distance (from New Zealand). I would be very grateful for any advice.

I am trying to find out about the Sankey Sugar Company which was based at Newton Le Willows and the Thomson family who owned it. John Thomson a Scot born abt 1812 was a partner/owner of the sugar company and he seems to have retired to Plymyard Park in Eastham perhaps after 1881 census He left Plymyard Park in his will to his youngest son. His widow Agnes was left the Manor house for the length of her widowhood. The park was 124 acres in 1899 from a plan drawn at that time and is bordered to the west by the Birkenhead & Chester Railway.
