Workhouses

Hi I have my grandfather's birth certificate and it shows he was born 8 August 1900 Workhouse U.D. The certificate shows the registration district as West Derby and the subdistrict as Walton. His name was William Jordan, son of Ellen Jordan a domestic servant of 8 Edgeware Street, West Derby. For her residence it shows Workhouse Walton. I can not find William on the 1901 census and am having difficulty finding any information on the workhouse as well. Does anyone have any information or know where I may be able to view the records relating to it & it's residents. Many thanks Jenny
