Liverpool Assizes and Kirkdale prison

I am looking for information on the following:
1. The opening of the first Liverpool Assizes
in August 1835
2. The first execution at Kirkdale prison (that of James Barlow in August or September 1835)
I would welcome any information about the above and in particular details of any books or local newspaper reports dealing with the same
