Wm. Sharp, merchant 1845-1852

I am researching a number of ships that were owned by a Liverpool merchant, William Sharp (or Sharpe) during the period 1847-1852.
The ships owned by Wm. Sharp during this period include the following: Victoria, Una, Lucy, Isabella, Courtenay, John Campbell, and the barque Edward.
Finding information on the ships is not difficult. However, I am having difficulties to find and info about the owner. I think he went bankrupt in 1852 due to a series of bad cargo investments by his ship masters.
Any information on Mr. Wm. Sharp, merchant of Liverpool would be greatly appreciated. This query is not for genealogy research, this is background information for a historical novel.
