Posted by gradders Is this an oversite, ommission? Can anyone shed any further light on these families and their influence? Particularly any local knowledge on the de Greslets would be welcome. (de Greslets were Baron(s) of Manchester for 200+ years, 1080-1307) but the land/influence included Childwall and other local areas. The family subsequently married into and became the de Lathoms, Stanleys/Lord Derby and other influential families of the region. De Greslet are supoosedly associated with the land between the Mersey and the Ribble, i.e West Derby/Leyland Hundred but I can find little reference to this claim. They had part share of Blackburn Hundred but sold this in 12C. They aquired the Barony of Manchester when Albert de Greslet married Maud FitzNigel, Lord of Halton and Wirral. I have reason to believe Hugh de Lupus, Earl of Chester and Albert de Greslet, Baron of Manchester were half brothers, but cannot substantiate. (But William FitNigel was Hugh's best mate and Albert married his daughter....West Derby was under the protectorate of Hugh....) Anyone any knowledge? Cheers G

Amazed at lack of reference of Hugh de Lupus (d'Avranche), Earl of Cheshire, William FitzNigel, Lord of Halton and the de Greslet (baron of Manchester) families who all held considerable influence over the Wirral, West Derby Hundred etc on these local websites.
