Classic Swing Gauge

I have Links 2003. When I use the Classic swing, the display during a game is not the same as that shown in the pratice sessions. Instead of a plain yellow band, it appears as succession of yellow flashes on the upswing and red ones on the down. Very hard to judge. I have tried all the settings I can fidn. am I missing something?
