Have you updated with the latest patches and/or updates? I am playing Links 2001 and before I updated, the 3D would not engage. Now it does and runs beautifully. I have a HP m490n Media Center PC with an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600 AGP 8X card with 128 MB DDR and it really does the job. I am running the game at 1280 x 1024 x 32 resolution.
If it was running at a higher resolution, I couldn't see the ball fly through the air.
