I had the same problem, here is what I did.
First, In Links, create a new player with a new career.
Second, Exit links.
Third, Go to the directory where this profile is stored and delete the two (I believe it was two) files associated with the player you just created in links.
Forth, copy your old files here and rename them to the new players name (the same as the ones you just deleted).
