Links 2003 Player Editor

I have edited some players (colors, hats, shirts, etc.), but those I play online can't seem to see those changes. I believe the game asks them to pick an animation for my players, at least the ones I've edited. I know I'm editing and saving the players and changes correctly, and when playing online I see them locally on my PC, but my opponents don't. Any idea why opponents don't see my edited players as I designed them?
