Game takes forever to render...

I've got a P4 2.4 w/ 512DDR@333 cas2 and a Gforce 4 ti4200 and the game takes forever to render on anything but the absolute lowest setting. I've got the 1.02 patch and no add-ons at all. Is there a known fix for this? The game defualts to max detail and my old P3 w/ gf3 run it perfectly, I see no reason for this horrible performance. I get over 13k in 3dmark2001, I know that the rendering in this is different but come on. Any help would be appreciated.
