Posted by Betheny L. on 2/19/2005, 1:57 am Some of us on the CareCure site have decided that with the loss of Christopher Reeve, the spinal cord injured (SCI) community needs to serve notice to our lawmakers that we plan to pick up his torch. After the rally we will meet with our legislators. We have legislative talking points to present to the legislators which will break down Care for SCI and Cure for SCI into dollar terms. Our goals are 1) passage of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Act plus funding-$300 million-to develop a SCI clinical trial network in the United States and 2) increased emphasis of the language used in NIH to encourage focusing on a cure for CNS-related paralysis. We will rally on the west side of the Capitol building in Washington D.C. at 10:00 a.m. The speaking schedule is not yet solidified but will definitely include eminent neuroscientist Dr. Wise Young (TIME magazine’s America’s Best in Science and Medicine, 2000, for his work with spinal cord injuries). A young man named Justin Richardson that benefited from macrophage surgery (Proneuron in Israel) in the acute stage of his SCI will also speak about his hopes for complete cure. For more information, to register or to make a small donation towards our Rally, check our website: www.cureparalysisnow.org. We will be updating it frequently. I hope you’ll consider joining us. The greater our number, the greater our impact. We need people and publicity. The time has come. Sincerely,
