Re: Smiley Richardson
Very Sad news indeed. I spent most of my time in Kluang billeted and working with Smiley, as we both arrived in Malaya at the same time along with Stuart Carr - April 1968. We had some very good times together. I got posted to Seria towards the end of 1969 and never went back to Kluang as the workshops were then being decommissioned for the pullout. Lost contact with him after that until I met Smiley again in 2008 at a reunion. I understand he was trying to get on the redundancy bandwagon in '69 but had difficulties because he was an apprenticed Air Tech in the REME. He told me he went back to Malaysia and spent most of his working life there until, as I understand, he came back to the UK to retire a couple of years ago. I didn't know he had gone back to the Far East. A great guy and good fun to be with, he will be sadly missed and my heart and prayers go out to his wife and family at this difficult time. Tony Green
