Before to moving to Portsmouth in 1954 I was one of a gang of lads in Hull: Jim, his brother Rick, Pete, Les, Tony, Clive, and me. We kept in touch until the mid/late 60's when life took us in our different directions and I had been looking for all of them since the early 80's with no success. I didn't know I was passing Rick's front door while on my way to and from my aunt's house every time I visited Hull, and I often enjoyed a carvery in the pub directly opposite his house.
I had moved to Scotland in the late 70's and about 8 years ago, out of the blue, received an email from Jim (now living near Toronto) asking if the email address was mine. It was of course so now we had Jim (who knew where Ricky was) and me.
I then found Pete's address and phone number so contacted him, and a short time later while walking though Hull Pete bumped into Les who knew where Tony was.
Only Clive was still missing, and remained so for a good while, but last year Tony bumped into him in a local shop in the village they had both lived in for 35 years!
We are now regularly in touch and visiting and my point is simply this: If it's meant to be it will happen, as Mick has proven on this site. After all, he might have set up this site and nobody answered as happened with the guys I worked with in Africa.
