KLUANG BY TRAIN
The train station is no longer downtown Singapore. It is at the Woodlands Train Checkpoint at the Causeway. Three ways to get there. 1- Taxi (expensive) 2- MRT to Kranji Station then pick up a No 170 SBS Transit bus opposite the station. Any 170 bus will do as long as it's going the right way and not back towards Queen St in S'pore. You will have to get off at the Causeway for Customs. 3- Catch a No 170 bus from Queen St Bus Terminal. This terminal is about 2 blocks north and east of Bugis MRT station. Less than 5 mins walk. This is the cheapest option but also the slowest as it stops at all of its 63 bus stops as it meanders up to the Causeway. I don't know what the arrangements are for purchasing the train tickets at the causeway because I no longer use the train.
KLUANG BY BUS
The important place in JB is the LARKIN BUS TERMINAL. This is in the north of JB and all northerly buses go from here. 3 options for this. 1- Mrt to Kranji and 170 bus from outside. There are 2 No 170 buses outside Kranji MRT. The wrong one has a blue number plate and goes to the wrong terminal in JB. The 170 with a red number plate goes to LARKIN. 2- The 170 bus from Queen St terminal goes all the way to LARKIN. 3- Express bus from Queen St terminal to LARKIN. The 2 most common are SINGAPORE-JOHOR EXPRESS & CAUSEWAY LINK (CW2). Both cost about S$2.50 single fare only.
At customs on both sides you have to leave the bus with your luggage (cos the bus doesn't wait for you), go through Customs/Immigration and then go out onto the bus concourse and look for your relevant bus stop. The next bus will be along shortly. Unfortunately you have to do this both sides of the Causeway. From the Malaysian side these 3 buses then take you to LARKIN. If you use Express buses don't throw your ticket away cos they will want to see it when you re-board their buses.
At LARKIN you will be attacked by numerous strangers all trying to sell you their companys tickets to go north. Buses to KLUANG leave at a minimum of every 30 mins. There are several of them, Orchid, S & S, etc. All go up the motorway and across to Kluang Bus terminal which is just alongside the Prime City Hotel.
That's it. Seems long winded but it's the 2 checkpoints that waste most of the time. I will be leaving Queen St terminal at about 8.00am on the Sunday and expect to be in Kluang about 11.00 to 11.30. See you all there.
