Now , I enjoy the sunshine as much as the next vitamin D deficient individual , but let's be honest , the constant itchy red eyes, streaming nose and incessant sneezing is not a good look at the best of times and the prospect of an exacerbation in symptoms is likely to drive me indoors quicker than you can say anti-histamine !
Having retreated back into my cave I look on jealously as the rest of the world soaks in the ultra violet rays and push up the stock market price of “Ambre Solair” to an eighteen month high . I do however allow myself the occasional smile as the odd “lobster” walks by in search of the local burns unit! Being indoors at this time of the year does have its' compensations though; firstly I am fortunate to have an air conditioning unit which comes into it's own after ten months of serving as a makeshift clothes horse. Secondly i've been able to enjoy all the wonderful sporting triumphs that “we Brits” have achieved. Who can forget the glorious Rugby Test series win by the “Lions” in Australia and after seventy -seven years surely Andy Murrays' success at Wimbledon will go down as one of those “ you know where you were when moments”?! No , really. I can you ? Where was I when at that precise moment the accommodating Mr Djokovic slammed the ball into the Centre Court net : applying first aid to my partners blood soaked , macerated right hand! Chainsaw incident? Meat cleaver mishap? No...in an (hindsight would suggest poorly judged) attempt the new nine week old kitten from fleeing the unexpected yet well intended attentions of the family “pooch,” the kitten reciprocated my partners good will gesture by ripping her hand to shreds in what can only be described as a “machete-esque” fashion, leaving me to swiftly put into practice all that I have learned from years of watching T.V's Casualty!
I'm sure you'll be glad to know that kitty has since calmed down and that my better half is well on the mend if still a little bit sore. Though I argue not as sore as I was ( and I can feel the waves of your collective sympathy) at missing that historic final game (well, it had been seventy-seven years!!)
Hope this will keep some of going till the next witter and meet later in the year.
