Re: The Spiders of yesteryear.
The accomodation at No1 Training battaliom REME in Blanford was also Spiders. The National Sevice to the left .Regulars to the Right. As regulars our food was supposedly better than the NS but I doubt that in practice any of the food at Blanford or the the 2 hutted barracks in Bordon Poperinge and Canada Hutments would attract even hungery pigs.If you had any food left on your plate the Orderly Officer/Sgt would expect a good reson why .Or you would be sent back to eat it.At Bordon we eat in the Big Sandringham Block Vile.I had three steak and kiddney puddings a week booked inthe cafe near the Fire staion. The waiting list for these meals was weeks long.On arrival at Wallop the quality of the food was a leap into luxury. The best food on a consistent basis was when I served with the Argyle and Southern Highlanders. Both in Selerang Barracks Singapore and On active duty in Borneo.Excellent.We even had our own cook in Borneo after the WO ic cookhouse noticed the odd hours we worked.Mind you the food provided by the Sgts mess Sarawak Rangers was good.Worst and coldest accomodation Netheravon
