Geordie Fairclough has posted a site ref which shows shoulder flashes/badges : ‘Wings’ with ‘AT’ at their centre. This suggests that all Aircraft Technicians were issued with these wings and were permitted to wear them.
I can remember that in the early days (1960’s) there were questions posed about an Air Tech’s entitlement to wear wings simply through their trade.
I cannot recall this question being resolved or ever being issued with any set of wings. I left in 1969 without ever donning wings on my shoulder.
Can any reader clarify this question?
Were wings issued to any Aircraft Technicians?
As far as I can recall, only 21 Flight Air Techs in Wallop wore ’para’ wings and qualified by completing 3 jumps a year. They also qualified for extra pay.
So apart from 21 Flt, did any other Air techs have “ Aircraft Technician Wings” issued to them?
