Bottom line - I am pretty sure that this debate has very little to do with art, and more to do with some people's concepts about "cool". I would say that it is much easier to sit on the sidelines or near the sidelines and point and laugh at those playing the game. And if that makes some feel superior (which is the point of pointing and laughing) well, way to go. Your art / stance is made. Long live artists and critics. In the long run someday we will all parish and what will be left behind will be positive or negative. So make your legacy today.
There are some who want to hold art as a prisoner and still call it art. Which it is to the pet holder. But, not wanting to share out of some desire to be seen by ones self as cooler than those who want to share is just a piece of that person's problems. Art is only sacrif if you think so. Art is only cool if you think so. If enough people agree that something is art then that piece or person can change the way art is seen or understood. If some of you have no desire to share, maybe that's a choice to be isolated and not try to be a part of the big picture of art - which makes you a snob, a hobbiest, or a dingle turd. On the other hand, if you keep it in a box and someone finds your box. it might be "recognized" as art.
