Had Van Gogh not been seen what he did would not have mattered. Van Gogh wasn't in it (just) for himself and the thrill of painting. He viewed himseld as a failure because of his lack of succes. If he were able to see the impact upon us all he would not have been so misserible and tormented into suicide (maybe).
