Yip, what Ty said.
Its a tough question, for some bands playing every week works, and for some it comes down to income. Cover bands, solo acts, etc tend to play more just for the income, ie- Hosty. But I think for bands that put on more of a "show" and try and keep things fresh once a month in a given town should be the standard--ie- Klip in Norman one week, in OKC the next. Especially when scenes don't inter-mingle, like OKC and Norman.
On the flip side of all of that, sometimes you have to play more often because the gigs are being offered, for fear of the gig drought that often happens. Club owners tend to have short memories, and if you are not on thier "A" list, you get left out if you don't play more often.
