Hey all~ Thanks for the prayers Paige and Barbie! MUCH appreciated. This was my longest stay in the hospital since I was born. Sept. 14 til Nov. 8th...ICK! Miracles occured though, which I MUST share. I have the worst type of the birth defect I was born with. I am SUPPOSED to be shunt dependent for life...however long that is. HOWEVER, they were able to do another procedure on me Nov 1st, and so I have been shunt free since then!! ALLEUIA!! A shunt is a tube that sends the spinal fluid around the body so that it doesn't cause the fluid to build up in the brain. I NEVER thought I'd be shuntless, and therefore in the 10% bracket of SB patients, but anything is possible with God!! :-) They also found out that I had ANOTHER SB complication (like I needed anymore, right? LOL) so they had to do a Chiari malformation decompression. I don't know how strong your stomachs are so I'll be nice and let you look up Chiari II if you wish hehe. THAT was the worst procedure to recuperate from, and I still haven't fully. Doctor says it could take up to a full year...he's nuts. His resident was even worse! I was talking to him before Dr. Ewend came in and I said "Since I don't have a shunt anymore is there anything I need to worry about?" and this resident said, "No, not really. I mean the only thing that could really happen now is that you could get meningitis...but now that you don't have all that hardware to get infected, I wouldn't worry too much. I don't think you will get it any worse than any other person at this point....I mean, you could still die from it like anybody else...but that would be the worst thing to happen." ROFL, ya THINK?? I was like "Uhm, you might wanna stuff a sock in it while you're ahead." He then did that stupid test where he takes his finger and I have to not move my head and just follow it with my eyes. At one point he had it directly in front of me and I grabbed it and said, "GOTCHA!" He was not amused. OH!!! Before that he actually said, "Can you tell me your name?" like he had EVERY FREAKIN' day in the hospital, so this time I just smiled and said "Yeah, Susan Lucci." He was such a stooge, he was like, "I'm sorry, no try again." ROFL. My friend Barbara Niven says I shoulda slapped him and said that was from her and Susan but then I probably wouldn't be at my parents house right now, I'd be in jail or something. ICU was pretty much like jail so NO THANK YOU! I am SO ready to return to CA!! I have been in NC since AUGUST and don't expect to be able to return until May. Please keep me in your prayers! ~Linds
