Posted by Julie on 9/11/2005, 6:40 pm, in reply to "Re: My Dad..." I endedu p calling the nurse advice line and found out what is going on with my father. He has metastatic melanoma stage III so it is everywhere in his body. His condition had worsened yseterday when i went over there (he would not talk, and he was gaping his mouth and could hardly hold his own drink in his hand) so I ended up calling an ambulance since he still refused to go. Blood tests immedately showed he had kidney failure and they ordered a CT Scan which showed some spots on the top left side of his brain -- the area that controls his speech and his right side. the initial doctor's reaction was the cancer spread to his brain. the lab came back saying he had a stroke...so she ordered an MRI so we can know for sure but she is standing by her belief they are tumors. Once he had fluids in him he could begin talking better and better through the evening. Several times he ripped off his monitors and eventually his IVs. He's addressed my mom by her name and right away responds with hellos and "yeah" and when i told him i'd be back he said, "alright sweetie" Anyway... as i type he is receiving dialysis and i expect that to show very great improvements. When i left at 11 he was receiving a heart ultrasound, then would go down for an MRI, then start dialysis... so i am glad i did get him in when i did.
