My Oncologist was wonderful like your mom's surgeon. She used to call me to check on me too. She was my angel.
It's normal for your mom to want to talk about her fears of dying. I can only imagine how hard it is for you to listen, but doing so is giving her a gift and talking about her fears and the possibility of her death won't change the outcome of what happens.
