Kickstart U.K.: lambretta engine

Please can someone help,just fitted a lambretta 200cc engine in, starts 1st to 2nd kick,ticks over fine,the problem is when i select a gear and start to go it cuts out + the cluch leaver is very stiff.please help as the hammer is near by Thanks
