Posted by Stuart I just found your message whilst trawling for Vega stuff. I live in the UK, and currently have a Vega which I am about to fix up (it's actually my wife's). I own other Lambretta's and have always liked the Vega. To give you a quick response to your questions: It should be possible to pick up the correct petrol tank over here (keep an eye on Ebay UK or some of our dealers). The seat will be tricky. As far as I know, they are not being re-made. It is possible to fabricate one. I have one from a Cometa which was set on fire. The frame of the seat is repairable, so I am going to weld some new plate into some of the sections. As far as starting problems- Get a wiring diagram for it and check that everything is wired correctly. If you have any problems tracking it down, just let me know. You will have to track down the problem one step at a time, eliminating all of the obvious things, these include- are there any broken wires, bad connections, bad earths (including connections at control switches and lights), is the machine sparking OK (if not it could be a faulty HT coil, are the HT lead and cap in good condition (no cracks in the cap etc., have you tried a new spark plug, have you fitted a new set of points and re-set the timing, checked petrol supply, is the carb set up and running OK, etc. etc. It is a matter of carrying out some detective work, and eliminating all of the obvious things. I have listed you a few resources below: Check out the "Lambretta Home Workshop Manual", or Sticky's new Lambretta book "The Complete Spanner's Workshop Manual For Lambretta". Both books are essential. There is a UK magazine called Scootering which is really good (also on the web). There are plenty of good internet sites: scooterhelp.com (American), lcgb.co.uk (the officla Lambretta Club UK, great chat rooms etc.), taffspeed.co.uk, mbddevelopments.co.uk Good luck, and nice to chat with a fellow Vega owner.
