It turns out whoever owned this radio before must have tried the mod but screwed it up. They blindly set "high" for both UHF and VHF to 0xFF but the rig won't transmit at all with a setting over 0xB0. They also set "low" to 0x00. Any idea what some reasonable settings are? I bought a DJ-596T at a hamfest and found out too late for recourse that it wouldn't transmit on the high power setting.
