Posted by KB8IUA on 8/2/2006, 2:39 pm Upon turning on the radio, the tuner (VFO) is at a different frequency from that displayed on the digital display and commences a continuous, deep frequency cycle change as if it is attempting to find the correct tuner (VFO) frequency. (usually 7298.5 KHz).

This started out to be a random problem that occurred occasionally when the radio was turned on. Now it happens everytime the radio is turned on after being off for more than a few hours.
Sometimes, the digital display is blinking on and off as the freqency cycling starts, but after a few minutes, the display will stay on steady as the radio continues with the frequency change cycling.
Also, sometimes there is no receiver power and transmitter output power when the cycling starts, but after a few minutes, it also becomes normal as the radio continues with the frequency cycle change. This will continue on for ½ to 2 hours until the tuner(VFO) frequency approaches that indicated on the digital display. It is possible to receive and make transmissions while continuously adjusting the tuner frequency (VFO) dial to stay in line with the changing frequency.
As the tuner (VFO) frequency approaches that on the digital display, the digital display again starts blinking on and off for up to a minute and then stays on steady as the tuner (VFO) frequency locks on to that in the digital display. The tuner (VFO) is now at the proper frequency and the radio now receives and transmits normally and presents no further problems until it is shut off and restarted a few hours later.
