I remember in the late 90's me and my OL went to a track in Waterloo to compete and we were both amazed at at how many drivers this one club brought into the sport.
Especially younger drivers.
This was a strictly 4 stroke Honda club only
The club was run swiftly.
Me and my OL discussed that the reasons for the larger then usual club size and turnout was possibly due to the fact that it may be an out of sight , out of mind thing with other kinds of engines.
When you show up to race each weekend there, you did not have to see yourself and or your kid drool and dream of buying un-earned speed and another type of engine so quickly from the added exposure of the 2 strokes every weekend at the 4 cycle only club.
It may have made most feel like the other guy pitting next to them more often ... more people with more of the same in common creates...UNITY...taa daa!
The choice was easier to understand for new people in that area looking at investing in go-karts.
If you were one that did buy into the 2 stokes it would be only used for a PRO Provincial Championship and practices. Not in the beginner weekly 4 cycle club racing thing.
Most others that did not upgrade would come and watch the Pro Provincial races and cheer on there club heroes that invested.
I believe this idea and a little more tweaking may keep people in karting longer and create the mold that others should follow for the re birth of the slow to fast progression stages at all track clubs and create a more organized view from the outside.
Clubs could hold 10 or so Official setup/practice ONLY days throughout the season(no racing) for this Pro Provincial 2 stroke yearly Huge race held at approved tracks.
Having official setup and practice time ONLY before the 3 day race weekend is very limiting for growth, profit and is not as safe.
re think?
This idea may also make the hot shot 2 cycle racers come out and practice racing at the 4 cycle only clubs more often for real racing practice for the yearly PRO,PRO 2 cycle events.
Did I say PRO twice?
I feel more freedom now as this topic has been stuck in my head for years.
out of mind and now in sight!
