I feel adding the clutch to 2 stroke karts has messed up the true learning curve and progression of producing real talented motor sport racers and coordinated drivers.
Direct drive karts was/is an important step in the progression of karting, producing talent and finding such natural talent.
Without the experience of a direct drive kart, I feel we can never learn the true ultimate control of physically feeling the track at more speed and braking.
Direct Drive karts tested more of our bodies ability to drive and feel more at one given time, with less parts to compensate our own personal driving errors as one is able to do in a clutch kart.
It tested our mechanical ability more as for finding and feeling the proper setup up for race day, with less parts to blame for an unsuccessful day.
The Direct Drive class was an essential elite class that tested ones skill at finding more natural talent for other more strict forms of 4 wheel racing.
A Direct drive kart was The PROPER instrument for the next step up from a 4 stroke clutch kart within the karting ladder.
A clutch is like a shock absorber...It add more piece$, part$ and secrets to the kart and also adds to kartings learning curve puzzle.
The clutch is there to compensate the low rpm's and many more internal parts with a 4 stroke engine. (valves, springs)
This karting learning curve puzzle should always be driven by simpicity for the ultimate goal of simplicity for karters and go-karting.
A centrifugal clutch kart makes it easier to learn how to drive and race a go-kart...This part of the learning curve should stay in 4 stroke where new people to the sport are learning to becoming smooth talented racers and better drivers at a lower velocity and speed.
They may want to give the next curve a try with more knowledge of setup and conditioning taught and earned from 4 stroke karting.
This next advanced stage might not require any plastic body work due to ones ability. NO side pods or nose cones.
Rads, Shocks, torsion bars, multiple gears and more parts are good for cars but not for go-karts...
Is the next step down from go-karts a soap box racer?
Do the soap box racing orgs. promote karting in their ladder?
Again: The complete go-karting learning curve puzzle should always be driven by simplicity for the ultimate goal of keeping people in the sport/hobby and making it more simple for newbies to purchase, learn and condition their body for advanced kart driving and kart racing skills.
Why do you think a 2 stroke driver can have sore or broken ribs just from driving? Maybe because their karting muscles are not strong enough yet to move up???
Back to 4 stroke ya go to build those stomach and neck muscles so you can learn how to drive a go-kart before taking on some real kart racing!
What do you think? Do you have the experience?
FYI: I started to write this message two and a half years ago. But started to think about it many more years prior when I saw a clutch on a Yammy kt100.![]()
